Savannah General Overview
Savannah is a delightful area oozing with southern charm and character. Unlike nearby Hilton Head, the roads are quiet and often better described as country lanes with lovely trees and pretty private yards lining the way with their flowers and colorful shrubs. The Savannah people are very proud and fond of the environment in which they live and want to keep the roads and neighborhoods as charming as they are now. They do not want to become an over built area and like the fact that most of the tourists go to the downtown historic area, allowing the other residential areas free to enjoy their tranquillity and beauty.

The downtown historic area is very interesting and pretty but is probably not the place where most people are going to chose to buy a home. The islands, plantations and sub-divisions are home to the majority of newcomers to the area.

If you want a good overview of the general area, you cannot do better than call Chester, the southern gentleman who drove us around, and ask him to take you on a tour. He charged us $18 an hour and it was so much more pleasant and useful than renting a car and trying to navigate ourselves around a new area. Chester is knowledgeable and entertaining and can be reached at Liberty Taxi Service. Telephone 484-5002.
