Taxes

TAX MAN

The state of Arizona imposes a five percent retail sales tax. Goods sold within Maricopa County are taxed an additional .75 percent tax. In addition, various cities and towns also add on an additional tax (with the exception of Sun City/Sun City West). The following is a list of additional taxes;

Gilbert 1.0%
Fountain Hills & Paradise Valley 1.2%
Glendale & Phoenix 1.3%
Scottsdale 1.0%
Mesa, Avondale, Chandler & Peoria 1.5%
Tempe 1.7%
Buckeye, Carefree, Cave Creek, Goodyear, Litchfield Park & Tolleson 2.0%

The above taxes apply to all retail sales except food (some cities do tax food sales) and prescription medicines.

A personal income tax is levied on residents and non-residents earning income in Arizona. The property tax is calculated by multiplying the assessed value by the tax rate for the district in which the home is located.

Typical property tax for an owner occupied residence within Maricopa County is $12.53 for every $100.00 of assessed value. For further information, contact Maricopa County Treasurer at 602-506-3975.
